Inspiring Holiday on Light Streets

Karakuldzha rayon of the Osh province is a place of typical oriental dwellings, which are blossoming with flowers from spring to late autumn. Cotton and rice are cultivated on fields, and various fruits are grown in gardens. Local markets/bazaars have strong trading activity; life is boiled but only till evening comes. In the dark, it seems that life is frozen.

The rayon was established in remote 1936. In honor of formation of the Soviet power in the country it was named as Sovetsky rayon. It seemed that life was quite good under communism. But in 1990-s, the Soviet state was collapsed, and the people were forced to be adapted to new structure. Since that time, already 20 years, in Karakuldzha, this rayon was renamed in 1992, streets are not lightened. All beauties of the oriental Karakuldzha are open to views of the guests and citizens only during daytime.

This year, problem of street lights was solved thanks to common efforts.

Within its programme “Good Neighborhood”, the company FINCA provides support to development of the local community. At the end of 2012, the project on installation of street lamps on central streets of Karakuldzha was designed in cooperation with the local authorities and rayon electric power station. Project costing over half a million soms was strongly supported and introduced before celebration of the Victory Day. On May 9, 2013, Karakuldzha honored its veterans on the streets lightened by new energy saving lamps. The company FINCA acted as sponsor for purchasing and installation of the street lamps. Staff of the rayon electric power plant and the village council undertook commitment for further operation and maintenance of these lamps.

Besides twenty five thousand people, citizens of the rayon center, hundreds of persons come here to work and study and buy something at the market. Now, it is more pleasant and safe to walk in the evening, send children to school and just walk on the streets of Karakuldzha.
