FINCA Helped to Replace Roofing in Kan (Sovetsky) Village of the Kadamzhay Rayon

Kan (Sovetsky) village is located in remote area of the Kadamzhay rayon of the Batken province.  In 2011, it was epicenter of earthquake. Now, about one and half thousand people reside in the village. Majority of the local citizens went abroad to earn money. Those who stay in the village are involved in livestock-breeding and crop cultivation.

Earthquake for the region, where major part of the population is below poverty line, was a severe test for them, and support of the authorities was not sufficient. There is only one school in this village, which is in very poor condition. About two hundred children still continue to study there in spite of fear and risk.

Repair of roofing is very urgent problem: roof of the building was leaking in all class-rooms of the secondary school. Pouring rains damaged wells of the school repaired by teachers and parents.

The company FINCA decided to help the citizens to find out solution from existing situation since the local people and local administration applied to the company in May. FINCA bought zinc-coated sheets to cover roofing of the building. Parents of students and school administration decided to repair roof by themselves.

The company FINCA has plans to realize many other social projects and support those in need under involvement of the head of rayon administration and municipality of Kadamzhay town. Renovation of roof is the first of such projects in Kadamzhay.

“We would like to see our kids in safety, they grow health and get good education”, – Ruslan Alashaev, the director of Kadamzhay branch of the company FINCA said.
