Tips for recognizing telephone scammers
How to know and check if a phone number belongs to a scammer? These tips will help you recognize telephone scammers.
Pay attention to the following tips to avoid scammers:
- 1
Unexpected Contact: An unexpected call, SMS, or message in messenger or social networks from a stranger, no matter who they claim to be (a bank employee, police officer, store, or acquaintance), is already a reason to be wary.
- 2
Money Transfers: If the conversation involves the transfer of money and the person asks you to urgently make a transaction to a "safe" account, pay a tax, reservation, fine, deposit, advance payment, or offers very profitable prizes, any payments, unique conditions on loans/deposits, or investment products promising huge returns. Conversely, attempts to intimidate you by the possible loss of money are also a red flag.
- 3
Bank Card Information: Be cautious if the person tries to find out your bank card data, such as the number, the three-digit code on its back, PIN code, or any codes sent via SMS, as well as any personal data.
- 4
Moral Pressure: Be alert to any moral pressure, especially if there's a demand for an immediate decision to transfer money or provide card data.
- 5
Errors in Communication: Pay attention to spelling or syntactic errors, as these should be the first "alarm bell."
- 6
Verification of Contact Numbers: Always check the phone numbers you are asked to call back to find out more information about your "blocked card/account." These numbers can be verified on bank websites and social media pages.
Top Phrases that telephone scammers usually use to cheat you:
- 1
Questionable Operation: "In another city, there was a questionable operation on your card or an attempt of unauthorized debit from your account."
- 2
Account Amount: "Provide an approximate amount in your account."
- 3
SMS Code: "Tell the code from SMS."
- 4
Secure App: "Install a secure app."
