How FINCA Bank Created Its First Kyrgyz-Language Voice AI Bot
A Kyrgyz-language voice AI bot is an intelligent system that recognizes a customer’s natural speech, identifies their request, and responds by voice. Today, the technology is primarily used in FINCA Bank’s Contact Center, where it helps handle incoming and outgoing interactions without requiring customers to navigate a traditional touch-tone menu.
FINCA Bank recently announced the launch of its Kyrgyz-language voice AI assistant. Behind the launch was extensive work to adapt and train speech recognition and speech synthesis technologies, as the solutions previously available for the Kyrgyz language did not provide the level of quality required for banking service scenarios.
In this article, we explain how the voice AI bot works, why creating such a solution proved considerably more complex than simply translating an existing service, and what opportunities the technology already offers customers today.
Why Creating a Kyrgyz-Language Voice AI Bot Was More Difficult Than It Might Seem
At first glance, it might seem that all you need to do is take an existing Russian-language voice assistant and translate its responses into Kyrgyz. In practice, this approach does not work.
Any modern voice AI system consists of at least two important components. The first is responsible for speech recognition — it needs to understand what a person is saying. The second is responsible for speech synthesis, meaning the natural voice reproduction of a response. If either component does not work well with the language, a fully functional dialogue is impossible.
That is why FINCA Bank’s team took a different approach. Together with its technology partners, the Bank developed dedicated speech recognition and synthesis models trained specifically for the Kyrgyz language.
According to Bolotbek Kalchaev, Head of the Voice and Text Technologies Implementation Project at FINCA Bank, the launch introduces a fundamentally new way for customers to interact with the Bank:
“This means that when customers call FINCA Bank, or receive a call from FINCA Bank, they can now speak to the bot in natural Kyrgyz without pressing any buttons or navigating a voice menu. They can simply speak as they normally would to another person.”
Why the Existing Bot Could Not Simply Be Translated
Written Kyrgyz and everyday spoken Kyrgyz are far from identical.
In real conversations, people use abbreviations and colloquial expressions, change word order, speak at different speeds, pause, leave sentences unfinished, and may use dialectal features. Humans understand such speech intuitively, but artificial intelligence has to be specifically trained to do so.
For this reason, the speech recognition model was trained not on formal written texts but on natural, conversational Kyrgyz speech. Similar work was carried out on voice synthesis: responses needed to sound natural to native speakers rather than like mechanically read text.
As Bolotbek Kalchaev explains, the project required the development of dedicated speech models rather than the simple localization of an existing solution:
“If you simply translate the text, the bot will not be able to understand the customer. We extensively fine-tuned the models — from language recognition and speech synthesis to adapting them to the Bank’s specific requirements and real customer requests — so that the bot could provide intelligent answers.”
Today, the voice AI assistant operates in FINCA Bank’s Contact Center. It helps customers with information about the Bank’s products and services, answers frequently asked questions, and immediately transfers the conversation to a specialist when necessary.
How the Technology Works

Most users only experience the end result: they ask a question and hear an answer. Behind the scenes, however, several processes are working simultaneously.
How the Bot Understands Speech
When a customer starts speaking, the system first converts their voice into text. This process is known as speech recognition. In the Contact Center, this allows customers to immediately explain the purpose of their call in their own words instead of spending time navigating a voice menu.
Artificial intelligence then determines the meaning of what has been said. What matters is not individual words, but the customer’s intent.
For example, a customer might say:
“I wanted to ask about a loan. I’m already your customer and I’ve had loans with you before, so I wanted to ask about them in general.”
Despite the different wording, the system understands that both statements relate to the same type of request.
This is fundamentally different from traditional voice menus, which only recognize predefined commands.

How the Bot Responds by Voice
Once the system determines what the customer wants, it generates a response and converts it into speech. This process is called speech synthesis — a technology that turns text into natural-sounding voice.
In practice, this means that when customers contact the Contact Center, they do not hear only prerecorded voice messages. Instead, they receive responses generated by the system according to the question they have asked.
For Kyrgyz, this proved no less challenging than speech recognition. If speech synthesis is not properly configured, the voice may sound mechanical, place stress incorrectly, make unnatural pauses, or mispronounce individual words. All of these issues make communication more difficult and can reduce users’ trust in the service.
That is why the team paid particular attention to making the AI bot’s responses sound as natural as possible to Kyrgyz speakers. For the customer, this means the interaction feels more like an ordinary telephone conversation than communicating with a machine reading prerecorded text.
Another important feature is that the system is not static. Like most modern AI solutions, the voice assistant continues to improve. Each new interaction helps developers analyze the model’s performance, identify situations where it can work better, and gradually improve speech recognition and response quality.
Despite advances in artificial intelligence, there are still situations in which customers may prefer to speak to a Bank employee.
In these cases, there is no need to search for the appropriate menu option or wait for a lengthy voice message to finish.
Customers can simply say:
“Connect me to a specialist”
or
“Transfer me to an operator.”
The call is then immediately transferred to a Contact Center employee.
According to Bolotbek Kalchaev, this ability to communicate freely with the system is what fundamentally distinguishes the new service from traditional voice menus:
“Traditional voice menus take you through a predefined scenario: press one, press two. Our Kyrgyz-language bot allows you simply to speak naturally. Ask any question, and it will respond.”
How the New AI Bot Differs from a Traditional Voice Menu
Most customers have encountered traditional bank interactive voice response (IVR) systems. They follow the same basic principle: the system offers a list of options, and customers select the appropriate section by pressing phone buttons or saying predefined words.
This approach works well for simple scenarios but becomes inconvenient when a customer’s question falls outside the predefined menu structure.
FINCA Bank’s new voice AI bot takes a different approach.
Traditional voice menu FINCA Voice AI Bot
Customer selects menu options Customer speaks naturally
Understands only predefined commands Understands the meaning of the question
Requires navigating several menu levels Allows customers to ask their question immediately
Has difficulty handling non-standard requests Recognizes different ways of expressing the same request
Communication follows a limited scenario Immediately transfers the customer to a specialist when necessary
This ability to engage in natural dialogue makes interacting with the Bank considerably easier. Customers no longer need to adapt to the system — instead, the system works to understand the customer.
Kyrgyz and Artificial Intelligence: Why This Project Matters Beyond the Bank
The development of artificial intelligence largely depends on the amount of available data. For English, Chinese, Spanish, and several other major world languages, enormous volumes of text and audio recordings are available to train modern AI models. Much less data is available for Kyrgyz, which means developing high-quality voice services requires dedicated model training.
That is why the launch of the voice AI assistant represents more than an improvement in the Bank’s customer service. It is also a contribution to the development of digital technologies in the Kyrgyz language. The project demonstrates that modern AI solutions can work effectively in local languages when the necessary technological foundations are created.
According to Bolotbek Kalchaev, this was the project’s most important outcome for the team:
“For me, the most important thing is that modern technologies have become accessible to people who speak Kyrgyz. And now this technology can become more accessible and widespread not only through our Bank, but more broadly for people who speak Kyrgyz. I believe this is a contribution to development.”
Although the voice AI assistant currently helps FINCA Bank customers with banking-related matters, similar technologies have potential applications in many other digital services where natural voice interaction in Kyrgyz is important.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can I speak to FINCA Bank’s voice AI bot in Kyrgyz?
Simply call FINCA Bank’s Contact Center or answer an incoming call from the Bank. If the interaction is handled by the voice AI assistant, you can immediately start speaking in Kyrgyz without using a touch-tone menu or memorizing special commands.
Does the bot understand only predefined commands?
No. The voice AI bot understands the meaning of a question rather than relying solely on individual keywords. Customers can phrase their requests however they find most convenient, using ordinary conversational language.
Can I speak to a human employee?
Yes. If you need assistance from a Contact Center specialist, simply say something like “Connect me to a specialist” or “Transfer me to an operator.” The interaction will then be transferred to a Bank employee.
How is the AI bot different from a traditional voice menu?
A traditional voice menu asks customers to select from a predefined set of options. The voice AI bot allows customers to immediately explain their question in their own words, making communication faster and more natural.
What questions can I ask the voice AI bot?
The voice assistant helps customers within the service scenarios currently supported by the Bank. As the project develops, its capabilities may expand, while speech recognition quality can continue to improve as the models are further refined.
Why couldn’t the existing Russian-language bot simply be translated?
Because artificial intelligence needs not only to pronounce Kyrgyz words but also to understand natural spoken language. This required dedicated training of Kyrgyz speech recognition and synthesis models and their adaptation to the characteristics of the language and real customer interactions.
What This Means for Customers Today
For most customers, the new technology means one simple thing: contacting the Bank becomes easier.
To get help, customers no longer need to remember the structure of a voice menu or search for the correct button. They can simply explain their question as they would in a normal conversation.
At the same time, artificial intelligence does not replace Bank employees. Instead, it provides an additional way to quickly obtain the necessary information. If a question requires the involvement of a specialist, customers can switch to a Contact Center employee at any time.
The launch of the Kyrgyz-language voice AI assistant marks an important milestone in FINCA Bank’s digital development. However, the value of the project extends beyond a single banking service. It demonstrates that modern artificial intelligence technologies can work effectively in Kyrgyz and make digital services more accessible to millions of people.
