Gaukhar’s Success Story: “In Business, Character, Experience, and the Ability to Move Forward Matter Most”

Gaukhar was born in Mailuu-Suu, Jalal-Abad region. She studied in Jalal-Abad and now lives in Osh, where she runs her own business. Together with her husband, who also works in the trading industry, she is raising four children—three daughters and one son.

Gaukhar graduated with a degree in Finance and Credit and began her career in the banking sector. However, after only six months, she realized it was not the right path for her. She wanted a more dynamic and creative job—one that involved constant communication with people, opportunities to build and develop something, and the ability to see the results of her work. That is how she entered the retail business.

She spent about ten years working with her husband’s brother, who introduced her to the furniture business. He taught her the fundamentals of the trade: how to work with customers and suppliers, negotiate effectively, set high standards, and confidently protect her interests.

Eventually, her husband’s brother decided to close the furniture store and leave the business. At that point, Gaukhar asked him to hand the store over to her. That was the beginning of her independent entrepreneurial journey.

Although the store already existed, Gaukhar practically had to start from scratch. There was little inventory, sales were not yet stable, and most of the furniture had to be purchased again. The early period was challenging: she had to increase sales, attract customers, meet financial obligations, and at the same time invest in future growth.

During this period, one of her key decisions was to obtain financing. Gaukhar turned to FINCA Bank to expand her product range and increase working capital. For her, a loan was not simply borrowed money—it was a tool that helped move the business forward by purchasing inventory, offering customers a wider selection, and gradually strengthening the store’s position.

Later, she took out another, larger loan to continue growing the business. By then, Gaukhar had gained solid experience in retail and understood how to use borrowed funds wisely and how important it is to take a loan with a clear business purpose.

“When the money is working, generating profit, and you clearly understand how you will repay the interest, a loan becomes a powerful tool for business growth,” she says.

Today, Gaukhar owns and manages Lubi Dom, a furniture showroom in Osh. The showroom is located in Taatan Shopping Center, and its products and activities can be found on Instagram at @lubi.dom.osh.

Most of her daily work involves men—furniture assemblers, craftsmen, suppliers, and many of her employees are men. However, this has never prevented Gaukhar from confidently managing operations, leading her team, and developing the business. Her team also includes women, including a sales manager and a marketing specialist who help grow sales and promote the business.

Gaukhar admits that being a woman in business can be more challenging, especially in southern Kyrgyzstan, where success often requires resilience, confidence, and a strong character. Yet these are exactly the qualities that help her overcome difficulties and keep moving forward.

“In my opinion, women in business are often more responsible. But it is also more difficult for women. You need a strong character to handle it all,” she says.

Gaukhar’s story is an example of how experience, hard work, and the courage to take responsibility can help a woman build a successful business. She has grown from working in retail to independently managing her own furniture showroom, proving that business success is built not only on financial resources, but also on character, knowledge, patience, and determination.
